Appearance vs. Reality

Civility, politeness, order are weapons in the hands of those who wish you silenced. They prioritize the appearance of a thing while ignoring its reality. Children find this confusing, their natural instincts tell them so. In the face of some injustice, the child is upset, crying, yelling. Parents correct this behavior, they try to calm the child, stop the outburst, the spectacle. They must protect their child, you see, teach them to behave properly so they are accepted by the group. Yet the injustice goes unaddressed. At first this is confusing, but the child eventually learns, to value appearance over reality, to shun emotionality and cling to order, and to swallow injustice.
